Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is still in disbelief at the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President William Ruto’s election in response to his presidential case.
Raila and his Azimio poked holes in the ruling and questioned why the Martha Koome-led court upheld William Ruto’s contentious victory despite limiting the authority of IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati in the verification and pronouncement of presidential results.
“The Court determines, as it was required to do, that there was a boardroom conflict and that the Commission must act together, but oddly states that there is no proof of a constitutional breach. In fact, the Court denies its own finding that every member of the Commission was complicit by characterizing the events at IEBC as “quorum antics,” according to the letter signed by Makau Mutua and attorney Paul Mwangi.
Azimio further questioned if the Koome-led bench would carry out its mandate based on its initial verdict dismissing the suit.
We question whether the Supreme Court would consider a 3-4 decision—with the majority of the judges dissenting—to be the court’s judgment.
