Milicent Jerotich, also known as Marakwet Daughter, has quickly won over hearts across the country with the mesmerizing sounds of her breakthrough song, “Mali Safi Chito,” causing a stir on social media.
The Kenyan singer-songwriter, who is becoming more and more well-known, has recently made news for her ability to perform musically as well as for being open about her love life and relationship situation.
Marakwet Daughter debunked speculations about her current single status in an insightful discussion with vloggers, despite her social media posts that feature a number of men.
It’s not forbidden to be in a relationship, but at the moment, I’m single. No ring on my finger, see? I’m still looking for work. Come court me. But be ready when you arrive. If not, you’ll come to know how ignorant you are. I still play the game like dating,” she said in jest.
At the youthful age of 21, Jepkorir, as she is affectionately called, left her marriage due to a series of tribulations that ultimately brought her back to her parents’ house.
The singer opened up to VJ Mastermind in a touching chat about her turbulent marriage and the hardships she faced as a young girl.
She disclosed that she got married at the age of sixteen in an attempt to break out from her family’s cycle of poverty.
“I didn’t go to high school. I was married when I was sixteen. I took comfort in going back to my family’s house instead of staying at my married residence because life was so hard. At 21, I broke up with him. I went through a lot. Despite my gifts, which appeared to come naturally to me, strife broke out in my ex-husband’s family. I had difficulties, suffered cruelty, and even struggled with despair. I couldn’t get any sleep. During the conversation, she recalled that she looked for comfort in hospitals.
After receiving care, Jepkorir started to recuperate.
Resolved to follow her dreams, she turned her attention to her music career, directing her energies towards achieving her goals.
