Residents of Kisumu were left shocked after reports emerged about a controversial case involving a young woman who allegedly admitted to knowingly exposing several local leaders to HIV.
According to accounts circulating within the community, the woman identified as Caroline Achieng, said to be in her early thirties and originally from Nyando, reportedly made the claims during a heated argument at a lodging facility near Kondele.
Witnesses say the confrontation began after two men allegedly discovered they had been seeing the same woman. The disagreement quickly drew attention from other people at the premises, and during the exchange the woman allegedly claimed that many men, including politicians and businessmen, had been involved with her.
Some bystanders later claimed she mentioned names of several individuals, including county politicians and business figures from Kisumu, Ahero, and Maseno areas. Among the names that were allegedly mentioned were Jared Ochieng, Kevin Odhiambo, and Dan Oketch, all said to be politically connected within the county.
The situation reportedly escalated when the woman claimed she had been diagnosed with HIV several years earlier but had continued with relationships out of anger after being abandoned by a former partner.
Word of the incident quickly spread through social media and local WhatsApp groups, causing panic and speculation across the county. However, health officials have cautioned the public against sharing unverified claims or naming individuals without confirmed evidence.

Officials from Kisumu County Government and local health authorities have urged residents to focus on responsible health practices such as regular testing and treatment, noting that HIV remains a manageable condition when handled responsibly.
Community leaders have also warned against stigmatizing people living with HIV, emphasizing that spreading fear and rumors only makes public health efforts more difficult.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the details of the claims, and investigations are ongoing to establish the truth behind the reports that have stirred intense discussion across Luo Nyanza.
As the story continues to unfold, residents are being urged to remain calm and rely on verified information.
